Dr. Ryan Cassilly is an Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon specializing in the non-operative and operative management of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar degenerative conditions and deformity. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, he completed his undergraduate education at Washington University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. There, he received two research grants through the National Institutes of Health studying the use of robotics in surgery. He then earned his medical degree from the prestigious Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.

Dr. Cassilly completed a five-year residency program in orthopaedic surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia University Medical Center. He was awarded the Harold M. Dick Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery, and was nominated as a NYP Hospital-Columbia Physician of the Year. Following residency, Dr. Cassilly completed a fellowship in Spinal Surgery at New York University – Hospital for Joint Diseases focusing on degenerative spine pathology, complex pediatric and adult spine deformity, disc arthroplasty, epidural injections, and minimally invasive spine surgery. He has authored textbook chapters on the physical exam of the spine as well as the use of osteobiologics in spinal surgery to assist with spinal fusion.

Dr. Cassilly joined Garden State Orthopaedic Associates in 2016 and offers a personalized, compassionate approach to spinal care, dedicated to improving the quality of life of his patients both through conservative and surgical management. He maintains hospital privileges at The Valley Hospital as well as St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, and is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He lives in Bergen County with his wife and children.
